On Wednesday Leaf, Root & Fruit only worked a half day and spent the afternoon visiting the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
As always, the Achievable Gardens were the highlight. Students from Melbourne Polytechnic, Swinburne, Holmesglen and University of Melbourne were challenged to create small, stylish and functional gardens. The task was to create gardens, that are aesthetically pleasing and are suited to anyone’s gardening skill levels. Amazingly, Claudine Reynolds, a student from Holmesglen Institute, managed to beat all of the show gardens, and boutique gardens to take out the Momentum Energy Sustainability Award.
On Thursday morning, I was also lucky enough to attend a VIP Breakfast hosted by Momentum Energy. The guest speaker was Dale Vine from the television show,” The Block”. He spoke about the importance of sustainable gardens and the need for all consumers to reduce their waste, especially that associated with unnecessary food and product packaging. Dale will also be at the Momentum Energy Garden this Saturday between 11am and 1pm.
Have you been along to the Flower and Garden Show this year? What were your highlights?
